 *** Attention All Customers ***

Effective July 1st, 2017 the amount of the Federal Universal Service Charge (FUSC) appearing on your bill each month will decrease as a result of a decrease in the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) universal service fund contribution factor from 17.4% to 17.1%.  The Federal Universal Service Fund program is designed to keep local telephone service rates affordable for all customers, in all areas of the United States.  Any complaints regarding the monthly Federal Universal Service Charge (FUSC) should be filed directly with the FCC.

*** Attention All Customers ***

Effective July 1, 2017, the Access Recovery Charge (ARC) for residential customers in the Jordan Valley Base Area Rate and Jordan Valley Zone A exchanges will increase to $3.00 per month.  The ARC for residential customers in the South Mountain, Idaho exchange will decrease to $2.03 per month.  The ARC for single line business customers in all exchanges will increase to $3.00 per month.  The Access Recovery Charge for OIU is filed under NECA FCC Tariff No.5 and was created by the FCC to help local carriers like OIU to recover revenues lost due to FCC mandated reductions in inter-carrier access settlements.

NOTICE OF NEW AREA CODE OVERLAY FOR THE IDAHO 208 AREA CODE

To ensure the continuing supply of telephone numbers in Idaho, a new 986 area code will be added to the area served by the existing 208 area code as an area code overlay.  An area code overlay adds another area code to the same geographic region as an existing area code.

Some important things to keep in mind...

Your area code and number will not change.

Your local calling area will not change.

You will still dial 911 to reach emergency services.

The way South Mountain customers of OIU dial calls will not change since they already have 10 digit dialing of local calls.

Local calls dial: AREA CODE + 7 DIGIT NUMBER (10 digit dialing)

Long Distance calls dial: 1+ AREA CODE + 7 DIGIT NUMBER

Dialing 211, 511, 611, 711, 811, and 911 will remain unchanged

The price of a call, coverage area, and other rates and services will not change b ecause of the overlay.

Beginning September 05, 2017, new lines or telephone numbers may be assigned using the new 986 area code for some carriers in Idaho.
